Circa 1911 per "Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles" by Speed et al. Bead front sight on sweated on island with sight hood and smooth ramp. Sling eye sweated onto barrel ahead of forearm tip. Engraved "SIGHTED FOR RIGBY'S SPECIAL HIGH VELOCTY / JOHN RIGBY & CO 43 SACKVILLE St. LONDON. W. / .275 BORE CARTRIDGE POINTED BULLET 140 GRS" ahead of rear sight. Three leaf express sight with one standing leaf and two folding leaves, regulated for 100 yards on standing leaf, 300 and 400 on folding leaves with anti-glare matting. Small ring action with German BU proofs, Mauser serial number, Rigby serial number, and Oberdorf information. Lyman All-American fixed 3-power sight with duplex reticle on QD mounts dovetailed through a square bridge set on barrel ahead of fore ring and on rear right. Matching numbers observed on bolt release and on bolt sleeve. Bolt handle with BU proofs and partially matching "6817" serial number. Safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold on flag, striker knob with Rigy adjustable peep rear sight. Svelte walnut stock with point pattern checkering with mullered borders about the forearm and the Prince of Wales grip. Trigger guard with matching Rigby serial number. Sling eye at toe, serrated buttplate. CONDITION: Very good as partially rehabilitated. Barrels with almost all of a reblack, with some areas of handling marks and one somewhat deeper strike on left side, ahead of sling eye ring, and thinning at muzzle partially concealed with cold blue. Action commensurate; scope bases are original, but the posts and rings are replacements. Stock excellent with some handling marks and impressions and an additional layer of varnish carefully added. Mechanically fine, bore with frosting and visible rifling, glass clear with an ochre hue. A lovely rifle from one of London's best makers in their iconic caliber.
