The rifled octagon barrel is stamped "H. DERINGER / PHILADA" on the top flat. The lock is stamped with partially visible markings "RO / PHIL / WAR" probably for Rodgers Brothers. The brass furniture includes a pierced and engraved classic 4-piece Philadelphia patchbox with a pineapple finial. The toeplate is also engraved. The octagonal brass barrel key escutcheons are all stamped with 2 small eagles. There is a shaped brass wear plate extending from trigger guard to ramrod entry ferule. There is a silver shield shaped wrist escutcheon inscribed "JJ" and a silver oval inlay engraved with an eagle above the cheekpiece. The pierced two-piece sideplate is engraved. The tiger maple stock shows evidence of Lehigh Valley form. Ramrod is its original. CONDITION: Barrel retains heavy brown patina. Lock is a reconversion. Brass retains a dark mustard patina. Stock shows scattered cracks, losses along forend and marks from use.
