This rifle is featured as No. 4 on pages 122 and 123 of "The Kentucky Longrifle" by John Dillin. Octagon barrel marked "Jos. Golcher" in script on top flat. Flat Germanic lockplate with beveled edges. Brass furniture including 4-piece Berks County patchbox. Four silver inlays on each side of forend and a plain silver star inlaid above cheekpiece. The tiger maple stock displays Berks County Roman nose form and has incised scrolls on left side of buttstock and around barrel tang. Complete with what appears to be its original ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a grey patina with some unusual heavy surface patina in signature area; signature very crisp. Barrel has been reconverted, lock a replacement but is in its original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a dark mustard patina. Stock shows scattered cracks, marks from use and some areas restored on forend.
