Patchboxes of this type with this finial are attributed to maker John Snyder (Schneider, Sneider) of the Lehigh Valley. This untouched example features an octagon barrel with some light engraving on both sides of rear sight. Germanic lockplate. The plain brass furniture includes a two-piece patchbox. There is a brass half-moon with face above the cheekpiece. Plain maple stock of Lehigh County form. Wood ramrod appears to be its original. CONDITION: Untouched and in as-found condition throughout. Lock and barrel retain a dark brown patina. Cock a possible period replacement. Brass retains a dark patina. Stock shows generous amounts of original finish. Scattered marks from use and signs of age, a couple slivers missing along barrel.
