With muzzle of classic tulip form and blade front sight, separated from balance of barrel by a silver band. Barrel with extensive inlaid decoration of samurai fighting including scenes at sea and mountainous terrain. Underside of stock with brass decorations, including scrollwork at ramrod opening, with decorative swallows spaced across the bottom. Large, approximately 22", brass plaque across bottom with cloud motif. Breech decorated with a kabuto, and stock with further brass inlays of a mounted samurai, a shishi dog, and florals. Right side with branded kanji, somewhat difficult to read. CONDITION: Barrel with some surface spotting, a few small linework inlays have lifted and are missing. Brass with a deep gold patina. Stock good with scattered handling marks and impressions, including two repaired cracks about the lock. Mechanically fine, bore excellent. A good example, with better than average decoration and of a desirable theme.
