Manufactured in 1874 with the rare raised thumb print dust cover, front barrel band with integral sight, small folding leaf rear sight, Winchester two line barrel address, "Model 1873" on tang with no sight holes, no caliber marks on barrel or brass lifter, standard blue finish, and walnut stock with carbine buttplate, trapdoor, and matching forearm. CONDITION: Very good. All metal is a smooth freckled patina. The barrel legends are thin but mostly legible. There is still some strong blue on loading gate. Case color lever and hammer are dark. The stock is a bit shy to metal and there is some chipping along the top right tang with normal small dents and impressions. The forearm is also a bit shy to metal, solid with some minor impressions and small chips at base of frame. The bore is well defined with some minor abrasions. Overall, a very clean and handsome example of a very early carbine and nearly impossible to find today in any condition.
