Barrel with full sized front sight, one line Colt Hartford address across top of barrel, and with "RAC" and "P" on barrel under ejector rod housing. "C" in hammer slot. Ejector rod housing with kidney shaped ejector rod head. "R.A.C." proofs visible on loading gate, rear of cylinder, bottom of both grip scales, and with his cartouche on the right scale, dated 1903. Grips are unnumbered. Ainsworth "A" proof visible on top of backstrap and trigger guard. Matching serial numbers observed on frame, trigger guard, and butt. The serial number corresponds to guns issued to the 2nd Cavalry in 1874, who fought in the Indian Wars, and were highly decorated. There is some contention in the Colt community about where exactly these guns were reblued, with some believing that Colt performed the work, as bluing was cheaper than case hardening, while others believe that they were reblued in Manila. CONDITION: Retains the majority of the bluing, with spotting throughout and some thinning to sharp edges and high areas, such as the ejector rod housing and recoil shield. Grips very good, free of cracks or chips, with a sharp cartouche. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and even oxidation.
