Manufactured circa 1864. Standard blued octagon barrel with large style 2-line address. German silver blade front sight and replica 900 yard graduated rear ladder. Full length magazine tube with large brass follower and forward sling bar. Matching "89" assembly numbers stamped on the loading gate and on the barrel underneath. Brass receiver is attractively engraved in the factory Hoggson style. The left side plate features a central running doe with foliate scroll over punch dot embellishment and line borders. Right side plate is engraved with further arabesque foliate scroll over punch dot backgrounds with line borders. The forward panels have characteristic sprays of leaves with central bunches of grapes. Lower tag stamped with Benjamin Tyler Henry's "H" inspection mark. Stock is a contemporary oiled walnut replacement, the matching serial number stamped in the channel. Mounts include a rear sling swivel and matching crescent tool trap butt plate with engraving at the heel. CONDITION: Very good as restored and upgraded. Barrel displays a plum patina mixing with some added finish. Receiver has a mellowing golden patina. Engraving is crisp and strong. Stock is excellent with only a few faint handling marks. Several screws appear to be replacements. Strong bore with frosting and some black powder abrasions. Fine mechanics.
