Both of these London Colts were made in 1855. Both have the Colt London barrel address along with numerous British proof marks. Both have all matching serial numbers to include the levers and last two digits on each wedge. Both pistols feature the octagon barrel, naval engagement roll die cylinders, large trigger guard with one piece walnut grips. Both have Colt patent stamp on left side of frame. The back strap on each of these London Colts was inscribed at a later date with "CSS ALABAMA" and at the base of each grip strap is engraved "R. SEMME'S". The Alabama was built in London in 1862 and commissioned as the CSS Alabama that same year. This wind and steam vessel was the Union's costliest adversary that claimed 65 Union ships for the Confederacy. Its Commander was Raphael Semme's. The oak case appears to be a period English style with VR crown on brass disc. The case includes two ivory Eley Bros London VR Crown etched screw top cap boxes , a ivory handle seal, a Colt stamped two cavity iron bullet mold and Sykes patent power flask. The inner case has been relined with two contemporary oak compartment lids. Also has some jags and two wood handle and brass 9" rods. CONDITION: Serial #29018 has a homogenous matte blue hue with some wiped on finish, sharp legends, sharp edges, nearly complete naval scene, excellent action with a bright bore and some handling marks. Serial 29099 has turned a more grey mixing patina hue, very smooth with strong legends. Action is fine. Bore is bright. Grips on both guns are fine showing dings and light finish loss. Both guns are crisp and show about the same amount of use.
