This is an antique Belgian manufactured revolver which has many design features very similar to the Japanese Type 26 revolver. This gun has a circle around “ELG” proof as well as an “N” with a star on the cylinder. Barrel has “2” on the underside forward of the hinge, and a “6” on the on the left side above the hinge. Interesting similarities to the Japanese Type 26 include: rotating side plate removable without tools by unscrewing the lanyard ring, cylinder stop notches, free-wheeling cylinder when fired, shape of trigger, and trigger guard. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good with extremely fine (about 80%) original blue finish with some scattered loss of finish on the right side of the frame and cylinder. Forward and back straps, lanyard ring and stud have some brown patina. Very Good with Excellent sharp rifling. Grips are remarkably fine. Bore is very good with clean sharp rifling. Mechanics are fine. Holster for this gun is extremely fine, still supple, with no cracking on the cover strap or hinge. There are two cartouches inside the flap which are too faint to read. The cartridge loops are large. Although this Revolver was made in Belgium the similarities to the Japanese Type 26 are too numerous to ignore. There were various designs of revolvers in Belgium manufactured in .44 Russian but few have the distinctive shape of Hammer rear base, pinless side plates, pivoting left side plate, barrel shape, trigger shape, and grip checkering/ shape of this revolver. This is a wonderful opportunity for the discerning revolver collector. JWK 2025-05-083.
