Fine example of very desirable Colt Commercial model MG38B Browning machine gun with spade handles. After the first World War, Colt marketed their water-cooled machine gun worldwide, desiring to improve the model, as well as capitalize on the remaining parts they had on-hand. The model MG38B features enlarged water fill and steam port drain fittings with brass caps compatible with the .50 Cal water-cooled machine gun hoses. This allows the use of a circulator pump to facilitate longer continuous firing in an anti-aircraft role. This model also features a heavier duty buffer and spade handles. All improvements based upon experience under combat conditions. Right sideplate has Colt and model marking over registered serial number with “DLO STAMFORD CT” marking on underside flat of right sideplate. Electronic NFA registry indicates “OEFINGER, DOUGLAS DBA DLO MFG” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of an avid machine gun shooter who was directly involved with the importation of the MG38B guns from England. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is extremely fine combination of lustrous blue finish fading to an attractive combination of gray and brown patina. Bolt is an attractive gray patina. with some loss of finish at the high edges. Original water drain cap with intact thumbpiece and retention chain at front of water jacket. Bore is extremely fine with strong rifling getting dark. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp with very smooth action. Wooden spade handles very fine with a solitary vertical shrinkage crack on each on the inner side. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A very attractive looking Browning with no dents in the water jacket, and in original configuration. Incredible find for the advanced and discerning Colt machine gun collector. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-09-118.
