Immediately noticeable features on this FAL are the Israel marked full-auto position on the handgrip and the sheet metal handguards. There are also British nitro proofs prominently visible on the underside of the barrel. Add to this the obliterated proofmark above the serial number on the left side of the receiver, and one may discern something of the history of this rifle which almost certainly was in British hands in the Middle East before it found its way here to America. Fabrique Nationale's FAL has been used by numerous countries around the world and has a reputation of high quality and reliability, and it is one of the most successful and iconic post-World War II battle rifles in history. Marked on the right side of the receiver, “FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE" with matching serial numbered upper and lower assemblies. Fine wood pistol grip and buttstock with sling swivel mounted at the bottom just forward of the toe. No magazine present but these are readily available. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FLEMING, WILLIAM DBA FLEMING FIREARMS” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the machine gun collection of noted William “Happiness is a Warm Machine Gun” Fleming. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original matte blue finish with some small spots, near excellent lustrous and matte blue refinish with some small spots of finish loss and light pitting on the bipod. Numbers are matching on flash hider as well as upper and lower receivers. Wood is extremely fine with some handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. An amazing find for the collector who wants a rifle which likely went from British hands in Israel to Israeli use, and subsequently, and fortunately found its way to Bill Fleming so it would become part of an American’s collection. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2025-09-105.
