This is one of only very few transferable specimens of the U.S. WW2 4.2" mortar. This 64 - 1/2" long mortar includes its 37" diameter baseplate, but there is no monopod present. The tube weighs over 100 pounds and has a fixed firing pin in the base of the cup. It is absolutely a crew-served weapon due to the weight of the pieces. This model was fielded in 1943 and began to be phased out in 1951, but was still in use during the Korean conflict and into the Vietnam era. Marked “Fleming Firearms Inc.” / Collinsville, OK" over “Big Boy” with serial number. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FLEMING, WILLIAM DBA FLEMING FIREARMS” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the machine gun collection of William “Happiness is a Warm Machine Gun” Fleming. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is combination of paint and brown patina, with more scale at the bearing at the bottom of the cup and socket of the baseplate. All of this can be cleaned up and made to look very presentable. Bore is dark. A very rare opportunity to acquire a tremendously impressive and historic mortar. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. JWK 2024-09-160.
CORRECTION: This is actually the later M30 Mortar as used from 1951 to present. It’s more robust design enabled it to fire heavier munitions than the earlier M2 Mortar. A very rare piece as a registered Destructive Device.
