Very nice early transition flat magazine housing Steyr manufactured MP-40 with clear “WaA 623” markings on receiver tube forward of magazine housing, as well as on the magazine housing itself. Barrel is unmarked. Barrel resting bar in white metal with black enamel paint. Barrel retention nut shows evidence of welding and restoration. Receiver and lower assembly parts match. Haenel manufactured bolt is non-matching, 5825. A magazine loader and five fine condition original 32 round magazines are included with this gun as well as high-quality reproduction canvas carrier. Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMANY” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the Estate collection of Dolf L. Goldsmith. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to extremely fine original blued finish turning to a gray and brown patina. Bore has strong shing lands getting dark in the grooves. Bolt face extremely fine. Bakelite lower and grips are extremely fine with light handling marks. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A very attractive MP-40 for the collector who wants an early transition gun which presents well, and with provenance to the patriarch of the machine gun hobby in the United States.
