This is an original Rock Island Arsenal manufactured model 1919A4 Browning air-cooled machine gun on a M2 tripod by “LOVELL MFG CO ” dated 1942, with traverse and elevation mechanism and pintle. There is also an original green canvas cover included with his gun. This gun’s right sideplate had sustained moderate pitting (probably during combat use), and much of the original markings were rendered illegible incidental to its rebuild and refinishing. Consequently, this gun is registered with an IRS number, and this number is clearly applied the the lower right sideplate just to the rear of “ORDCO 95051". Receiver bottom plate is marked, as manufactured by “RIA”. Safety bar present on right side of receiver. Many WWII Browning machine guns underwent rebuild and refinish at army depots over the years as they remained in service through the Korea and Vietnam eras. Electronic NFA Registry indicates “US” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Dolf L. Goldsmith. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is near excellent gray matte refinish over some moderate pitting and subsequent work to mitigate the pitted appearance. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine, marked as “RIA” manufactured. Tripod retains original WWII era olive drab paint with fine condition traverse & elevation mechanism. This is a full-auto only machine gun. A wonderful classic Curio and Relic eligible original Browning machine gun with a steady, easy to transport tripod ready to take to the range. A true cut above the sideplate guns as a collector’s item, with the desirability only enhanced by provenance to the patriarch of the machine gun hobby in America. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-09-171.
