Very fine DWM Maxim MG-08 manufactured very late in 1918 with matching numbers, exclusive of lock and barrel. This is a very remarkable gun as it was originally gifted to Dolf by Amy Gillette Olney. After WWI the U.S. Government gifted this gun to Olney in appreciation of her efforts to support the war effort as a member of the Red Cross. There is a brass plate affixed to the top cover which documents this. Subsequently, this gun was gifted to Dolf and it remained with him throughout his life. Included with this lot is a Swiss MG-11 tripod with adapter to mount this (or any other) MG-08 Maxim. The condition of this gun is quite remarkable, with the thumbpiece intact on the water fill cap, and matching numbered lower feed arm. Electronic NFA registry indicates “D.W.M.” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Dolf L. Goldsmith. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original blue finish with repainted water jacket (Dolf loved to repaint water jackets). One can always strip off the paint if one wishes. Backplate spade handles are extremely fine with some handling marks. Bore has strong rifling getting dark in the groves. Lock face is extremely fine. Gun mechanics are crisp and positive. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Tripod is a really fine specimen of Swiss MG-11 Maxim tripod, widely regarded as the best recreational shooting platform for a Maxim. A Maxim with exceptional provenance in a condition not often encountered. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-09-164.
