This Marlin Rockwell manufactured BAR was originally manufactured in June 1918 according to barrel date on the original “M” marked barrel. Later it was armory retrofitted for WWII and although it retained its original wood furnishings, a flash hider with bipod, and carrying handle were added. The gun found its way into British hands as well. This gun has both original ordnance bomb proofmarks, crossed cannon proofs, and British nitro proofs on barrel with “18 tons” notation. Third model gas regulator on this rifle. World War II era bipod and thirty-two 20 round magazines are included with this lot as well as a near mint Marlin marked “8-18” original barrel. Two of these magazines are lustrous blue finish, and 14 of them remain as new in their wrapper. A canvas waist belt with “lift-the-dot" fasteners, and manual are also included. This gun retains its semi-auto operational feature as originally fielded for World War I. Electronic NFA registry indicates “MARLIN ROCKWELL CORP” as the manufacturer of this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent smooth gray refinish, probably for WW2 issue. Markings are very crisp and clear. Wood is very attractive with some handling marks. Bore of barrel in gun is near excellent shiny and bright. Spare barrel appears as mint unfired with no sights having ever been fitted. Magazines are in fine condition and the canvas waist belt is likewise in fine serviceable condition. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. The Browning automatic rifle was designed to provide “walking fire” while on the advance. This concept meant to maximize the attack firepower and allow for both automatic suppressive fire on an objective as well as aimed semi-automatic fire from the shoulder. The BAR is a favorite at any shooting event, and this specimen is certain to draw significant interest as it might well have been used in both WW1 and WW2, and in addition indicates British use. An absolutely fabulous gun for the U.S. military historical machine gun enthusiast. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-09-176.
