All-original Maget (cra) manufactured MG-42 machine gun dated 1943. Bolt head is marked “dfb” and without serial number. Barrel is unnumbered original “cra” marked. Buttstock clearly marked “hvg 43”. Top cover is nazi marked, “cof” with nazi eagle proofs. Anti-aircraft flip-up post present at rear sight. Buttstock does not have retrofitted reinforcement wire which may indicate this gun was a capture in combat before this retrofit was fully implemented. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original finish with a combination of gray and brown patina throughout except for the barrel and buffer which have much more lustrous original blue finish. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp and positive. This is a full auto only machine gun. Close examination indicates early fabrication techniques used when this gun was manufactured. The WWII German MG-42 is perhaps the most sought after and iconic of German belt-fed machine guns. It’s distinctive fast rate of fire sound attracts attention and admiration at the range. Belts, ammunition, and parts are readily available as well as tripods and accessories, making this one of the most popular and sought after machine guns.
