DLO registered Rock Island Arsenal Browning model 1917A1 water cooled machine gun with 1917A1 tripod. “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL” markings on right sideplate above, “DOUGLAS L. OEFINGER STAMFORD CT U.S.A.”. Depending upon when DLO produced sideplates they would often incorporate original military contract maker’s markings to enhance attractiveness of these items to collectors. Attractive bronze trunnion and nose cap with water drain plug and cork with steel chain. Original U.S. Model of 1917A1 tripod is included with this lot. Electronic NFA registry indicates “FORM 2 REGISTRATION” as the manufacturer, but the markings on the sideplate clearly indicate Doug Oefinger. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance of gun is extremely fine smooth matte gray, perhaps arsenal, refinish with a bit of brown patina starting in places. Attractive brown bakelite handles have a chip out of the bottom of the right panel which is not immediately noticeable. Bolt is unmarked on top. Bore is fine with much strong shiny rifling with some residue towards the muzzle. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Tripod appears completely serviceable. A very nice Browning with no dents in the water jacket on a valuable correct vintage tripod. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2025-09-228.
