Very scarce H&R Reising Model 55 machine gun as issued during WWII to American forces. Marked with manufacture’s markings and “Model 55” on top of receiver with “P” proofmark, on the top of the barrel above the chamber. One original 20 round slab-sided magazine and an adapted with spacer 30 round magazine are included with this lot. This gun has a slab-sided magazine housing which will accept both the 12 and the 20 round magazines. The Reising machine guns were issued as an alternative to the Thompson, when the Thompsons were in short supply. A number of Reising machine guns saw service in the Pacific and also in Italy during WW II. The compact folding loop version would have been intended for situations such as for paratrooper or armored vehicle use. Firing from a closed bolt, the Reising is easier to hold on target than the Thompson when squeezing off the first shot. Electronic NFA registry indicates “IMPORTED NFA FIREARM“ in the manufacturer’s block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very fine, smooth gray original finish thinning to gray patina along top of receiver. Wood is extremely fine to near excellent, very attractive, with some light handling marks. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. The Reising Model 55 is much more seldom encountered than is the full stock version Model 50, and is very much in demand with World War II Collectors. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2025-09-237.
