This is the lightest and most maneuverable tripod for the Hotchkiss Model 1914 (and model 1900) machine guns. The other tripods correct for this model are the Omnibus and the “other” later Standard Parts Company tripod which has a large round dais and is often referred to as the “Cleveland” mount by machine gun enthusiasts. This model of 1916 Hotchkiss tripod is seldom encountered. This specimen retains it’s identification plate on the top of the center leg with name as it appears in this title followed by factory name and location. Elevation and traverse mechanisms are fine. Telescoping rear leg extends. No rear mounting pin present (there is not supposed to be). No tripod leg leather retention strap or hardware present with stiff wire holding the tripod legs folded. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good with original green paint giving way to brown surface corrosion. There are far more Hotchkiss machine guns out in the collecting community than there are mounting platforms for them. No doubt this will be a welcome opportunity for someone looking for an appropriate tripod for their gun. JWK 2025-09-247.
