C. 1920, Planters Peanut Co. In 1906 Amadeo Obici founded the Planters Peanut Company in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In 1913, Obici moved to Suffolk, Virginia to be closer to the peanut farms that had become so crucial to his company's success. That year he opened the first Planters processing plant, and in the following year Mr. Peanut was created from a customer contest. He quickly grew to become one of the most recognizable character icons for decades. In 1920, Planters began to advertise and promote their product in the form of a store point of sale display, comprising a cast iron roaster with figural Mr. Peanut riding the roaster. This example - one of very few survivors known - is in impeccable restored condition. Fully operational, the roaster will work, and Mr. Peanut has electric motion to imitate running the roaster. Arguably the most phenomenal piece of Planter Peanut history one could own, and it is unlikely a better example exists anywhere. CONDITION: Restored, showing little to no wear. Operational and stunning.
