Hands down one of the most sought-after machines for collectors. This exceedingly rare floor model upright features three separate machines housed in one beautiful oak cabinet. The finish of the triple cabinet is smooth and the beauty of the tiger oak is enhanced by dentil and egg and dart molding, carved bead trim, floral motifs, and intricate nickel-plated castings. This Caille musical triple Eclipse, serial 121, is the earliest known of all the Caille triples as of this writing. The other known Eclipse examples have serial numbers 122, 140 and 187. This being the earliest model with the wood columns, it should be around 1902 to 1904 production from the Caille factory. This machine has the zither attachment on the music box, which was a very rare option; 122 had it as well, but it was missing last time it went to auction. We have only seen this option on one other machine and it was an early double. The provenance of this slot shows that the Caille triple 121 turned up in a warehouse located in Nevada, along with dozens of other upright slot machines back in the late 1960’s. This turned out to be the Dobby Doc collection that was put together in the 1930’s and 1940’s. It was an enormous group of machines, if not the biggest group of uprights ever put together. This hoard was so large it consisted of five Caille roulettes, five double slot machines, three triples and several dozen singles. Dobby displayed his collection at the Last Frontier Village and was an avid collector of things from the past. The upright slot machines of Dobby Doc’s had brass tags on them starting with the letter G and then a number put on by an early route operator to keep track of the machines. This Eclipse triple 121 has G242 located on the back of the machine. CONDITION: This is a stunning example of a Caille triple slot with the denominations, 5¢, 50¢, 5¢, that collectors want. All original castings and most original plating, functioning beautifully and a centerpiece for any collection. Original Yale locks and keys.
