Initially offered a contract to produce M1s in 1951, tooling up for production proved difficult for the farm machinery company. The first thousand or so produced utilized nearly complete Springfield made receivers. As production improved, another group of unfinished Springfield receivers were also used. This example is marked under the wood with Springfield “D652891 43" drawing number. Tab is marked in the second "postage stamp" style by International Harvester with 4 even lines of text differing from the earlier nearly completed receivers which had the IHC markings applied by Springfield. As is correct, barrel is LMR production and dated "12 52". Standard post-War sights. Mostly "IHC" marked internals, hammer marked for Springfield production. The heavy walnut stock has been stamped on the inside with the full serial number and has been bedded. A sticker with sighting information present on the left side. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains the vast majority of its arsenal parkerized finish with high edge wear and handling. Stock has scattered marks. Strong, bright bore. ME reads about 2.5. TE of 3.
