Produced for the US Government between 1941-44. This serial number range would be circa 1941-42. The Sportsman model is scarcer than the standard Model 11 and was different in that it was a three shot and the forearm is a different configuration. The left side of the frame is stamped US with Ordnance bomb. This same stamp is found stamped on top of the barrel as well. The left side of the frame is stamped Military Finish. The left side of the barrel is stamped "Cyl" along with inspector stamp "WMM" with anchor. The left side of the plain pistol grip walnut stock is stamped FJA for Frank Atwood and the Ordnance Wheel stamp can be found there as well. An interesting aside to this gun is that after its usefulness during World War II, it was sold to the Princeton NJ police department. There is a sticker on left side of frame for Princeton Police Property. This same sticker can be found on right side of stock with white stencil unit mark "PB 23" CONDITION: 95% original military blue finish on metal. Stocks are excellent with minor handling marks. Bore and action are fine. A high condition rare double duty World War II & Police Department riot shotgun.
