Very attractive U.S. M 29 81mm mortar Radcliffe registered receiver cup with original M29A1 bipod, correct round baseplate, M53 optical sight with M107 telescopic elbow (no case), two empty original wooden projectile crates, and one dummy practice round in cardboard canister. The M29 mortar started to replace the older World War II M1 mortars in U.S. inventory in 1952 during the Korean war. As it was with the M224 mortar the M29 was designed to utilize both the older munitions still in inventory and also to take advantage of the newer long range munitions. It also had the advantage of being a lighter mortar package. It was primarily employed as a Battalion level asset providing fire support on call. From the collector and recreational standpoint, these accept a certain diameter “soup can”, so finding source material for recreational projectiles is straightforward. The M29A1 improved bipod was fielded starting in 1964, so this mortar would be appropriate for both the Korean and Vietnam War eras. CONDITION: Overall appearance is extremely fine to near excellent attractive original smooth deep blue finish on tube thinning to a grey patina with a bit of corrosion at the muzzle. Bipod, and baseplate also near excellent with round baseplate still in its mil spec moisture absorbent paper. Optical sight in fine condition with clear optics and intact leveling bubble. Dummy practice round near excellent still with original shipping packing attached. Bore is extremely fine and clean with some loss of finish to grey patina. Mechanics are fine. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE.
