Very attractive FN (Fabrique Nationale) F.A.L. machine gun designated as "Light Automatic Rifle" (French: Fusil Automatique Léger), as manufactured for the Congo. These guns found particular favor in this part of the world as the terrain, particularly the brush, or otherwise the longer ranges where there was no brush, proved that the full-power .308 cartridge was more effective than intermediate or pistol cartridges for all-around use. This came up in conversation between this cataloger and a genuine “Mercenary” from that area years ago. The FN-FAL has enjoyed success world-wide and was adopted by NATO forces in the Cold War era with great satisfaction. Fabrique Nationale manufactured guns are rather rare in the National Firearms Act registry as fully transferable guns. ATF Registration forms shows, "FN (HERSTAL)" as the manufacturer with no model designation. This can be requested update upon transfer. Right side of receiver marked with typical FN markings visible with attractive Congo crest on right side of magazine well. Includes one 20 round magazine, and one bayonet. Serial numbers match between upper and lower assemblies. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent dark black re-finish with some small bit of light pitting visible on right side lower receiver and buttplate. Wood has also been refinished and is an attractive rich brown color. Mechanics are fine. Bore is good with frosting throughout. Bolt is near excellent as refinished with the slightest of handling marks. This is a select fire machine gun. Bayonet is extremely fine with matte blue finish and unsharpened blade. The FAL rifle saw widespread military use in over 90 countries for over 3 decades. It is a highly effective full-power .308 battle rifle.
