Introduced in 1938, the Beretta Model 38 lineage of machine guns saw extensive usage throughout World War II and proved popular amongst both Allied and Axis soldiers. This example is stamped "MOSCHETTO AUT-MOD.38A-CAL.9-BREVET.N.828-428/ P. BERETTA-GARDONE V.T.-ITALIA-1942-XX" over the top of the receiver, with a "(Crown)/ FAG/ 39" above a "(Crown)/ R.E." on the left side of the milled barrel shroud collar, indicating manufacture by Fabbrica Armi Gardone in 1939 and subsequent Italian Royal Army acceptance. Serial number on barrel collar has been peened out, indicating that it is a replacement. This example exhibits several notable features, including a provision for a sliding cross-bar behind the rear trigger to "lock" fully automatic fire and a 1-piece bolt assembly. Metal components are blued, while the receiver is housed within a solid wood buttstock. Matching numbers are present on the receiver stock. Stock is shy to the buttplate but doesn't appear to have been sanded. This example is accompanied by its original 1968 amnesty registration paperwork and 1977, 1978, and 1999 dated Commonwealth of Virginia certificates of registration. 1 40-round magazine is present NFA registry lists "BERETTA, ITALY" in the manufacturer block and "1938A" in the model block. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal finish, with the receiver exhibiting wear and thinning overall that show through to pleasant brown and gray patinas. Barrel shroud and compensator exhibit moderate wear and thinning overall, with some areas of silvering on the compensator. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered nicks, marks, and minor impressions from storage and handling, with a small crack on the left side at the rear of the receiver tube. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE.
