High quality American made Smith & Wesson Model 76 machine gun with “U” prefix serial number. First guns were produced late in 1968 and have a “T” prefix. Once the initial “T” prefix guns were manufactured, the factory produced guns which had a “U” prefix serial number for the civilian and law enforcement market. This is a select fire machine gun with an ambidextrous safety/selector, hard composite pistol grip with swing-out rubber covered shoulder loop. Firing characteristics are ergonomic and this gun is both controllable and accurate. One 36 round lustrous blue finish magazine marked only “9 mm ctg”, and one 36 round M-45 Swedish K magazine is included. PROVENANCE: Copy of original handwritten fax from Tim LaFrance listing parts for sale and response ordering barrel. Additionally, there is the copy of original Form 3 from Dan Shea of Long Mountain Outfitters, with this gun listed by serial number as one of those from Ellis Prop Shop on inventory sheet. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is good original smooth gray-blue finish thinned to a pleasing gray patina. Stock is slightly loose when extended. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. This is a select fire machine gun. The S&W 76 is a great entry level machine gun. Ergonomic, trouble free, and readily available Swedish M-45 magazines snap right in and work fine. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2020-11-044
