Highly desirable Winchester manufactured BAR Model 1918 originally manufactured in November 1918 as indicated by the barrel date. As many were, this specimen was retrofitted during World War II, and although it still retains the first variation adjustable gas cylinder plug and wooden buttstock, it also has a bipod, carrying handle, smooth wooden forend and "F A S" selector markings. British nitro proof and firing test proofs on left side of barrel indicate this gun was in British hands before returning to the United States. Desirable accessories include an original checkered forend in extremely fine condition, a contemporary smooth wooden forend, seven 20 round magazines, a green web sling, two green canvas magazine pouches, a U.S. Combat Bookshelf softcover manual on the Browning Automatic Rifles, and an "Armasteel" handgrip assembly for the firer who would like a pistol grip when shooting a BAR. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine to very fine with over 90% World War II era smooth arsenal refinish with some thinning and wear to a grey patina at the high edges. Buttstock exhibits a crack 2-1/4" on right side and 4" on left side at a slight angle from the boreline from the receiver towards the butt. This does not affect serviceability. Otherwise the wood exhibits light but typical handling marks and dings. Bore has strong rifling turning dark in the grooves. Mechanics are crisp. The BAR is always a favorite among collectors and shooters. A historic classic which is also loads of fun as the range. Many times I have heard the chuckle and seen the grin on a shooters face even I have heard the steady, "thump, thump, thump" report of the BAR. A great machine gun! From the estate collection of noted cartridge collector and World War II veteran William H. Woodin. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
