Designed as a simplified variation of the 38A to expedite wartime production, Beretta's Model 38/42 submachine gun is recognized as one of the most significant Italian smalls arms of World War II, proving popular among both Allied and Axis troops during World War II. This example bears stampings stipulating the manufacturer information, model designation, as well as the caliber designation followed by the serial number "CC/ 1758" over the top of the receiver. Left side of stock bears a hand-carved "JA" above the trigger guard, with a partially discernible arsenal cartouche present on the butt. Metal components are blued, while the 1-piece stock is comprised of solid walnut. Additional features include a fluted barrel, integral compensator, double trigger assembly, inverted "V" front sight, as well as a square notch rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, barrel, as well as the stock. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their original blue finish, exhibiting scattered spots of wear and thinning that show through to a pleasant brown patina overall. Trigger guard exhibits moderate oxidation that does not affect its serviceability. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Stock exhibits some scattered nicks and marks from storage and handling, with the underside exhibiting 2-cracks that stem from the magazine well, as well as another crack stemming from the rear receiver tang on top of the wrist.
