Octagonal smoothbore barrel with centered sights surrounded by double lines, typical of Lehigh County, Pa. Lockplate with roller frizzen, marked "Ketland & Co." and is in original flintlock configuration. Brass furniture, extensively engraved inlays and wearplates including on comb, toe, and under fore-end. Two piece Lehigh Co. type patchbox engraved with stylized tulip and uniquely detailed borders; Comb plate engraved with tulips and vines on a lined background, ovoid shaped inlay above cheekpiece engraved with a folk-art eagle with a shield in its mouth, toeplate extends to beneath triggerguard tang and has panels of engraved vines and tulips. Each side of wrist has an "S" shaped brass inlay with rocker panel engraving and top has a vacant oval escutcheon. Fore-end wearplate, extending from triggerguard to entry ferrule has a classic "Allentown" Indian head or Liberty had. Figured maple full length stock also has some faux strips and is of typical early Lehigh County, Pa. form. Excellent condition, barrel and lock retain a dark brown and even patina, with some pitting at breech and in center of lockplate. Brass retains a mellow patina, stock has a few small chips along the barrel and has been refinished, one 2" section on each side, around rear barrel key, has been professionally replaced.
