Manley Inc. manufactured the Model 49 popcorn machine in the 1940's with this particular machine advertising Coca-Cola, serial no. 1-563. Since popcorn machines were found on almost every street corner back in the day, Manley sought to use the same philosophy but in movie theaters. He created the first electric popcorn machine and gained success from there, making popcorn the snack of choice in movie theaters. Wear is commensurate with age, showing surface scratches, dents in the metal and noticeable cracks along the top. The consignor adds that this cart was also pulled out of the Whittier Theater in California after the 1987 earthquake, was then restored and sent to a San Francisco design showroom where it survived another earthquake in 1989. Overall, this is a great machine and an amazing piece of history!
