Imperial Japanese Type 96 Light Machine Gun manufactured at the Kokura arsenal in February of 1939. The right side of the receiver is stamped with the Kokura arsenal "Cannon Ball" insignia and Kanji characters denoting the model designation above the serial number, date code "14.2", as well as a "pcc/ PHX., AZ." mark, indicating reactivation. Major metal components are blued, with the buttstock, pistol grip, and barrel carrying handle being comprised of wood. Receiver, receiver endcap pin, barrel retention pin, and magazine release flap are matching. This example is accompanied by a Tokyo arsenal 2.5x scope (Serial Number: 4176) with an original brown leather carrying case, as well as 1 additional 30-round magazine. Electronic NFA Registry indicates, "Japan" as the manufacturer. This is a full-auto only machine gun. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, as well as mild to moderate areas of surface level oxidation overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture exhibits scattered nicks, dings, and impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. Action cycles appropriately when cycled by hand. Exterior of scope is excellent, showing some minor wear the finish at the edges. Optic is clear, with a large spot and some minor hazing. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE.
