A most elaborate automation involving ten various movements. The clown figure standing upon a wooden carpet draped box performs acrobatic feats that in reality would be virtually impossible. These early creations are amazing to view and at times inconceivable that such creations could be accomplished! The ingenuity involved with these pieces not only required mechanical forethought but artistic ability as well. Normally this particular automaton has a paper mâché head and quite possibly the head is not original to the piece and/or the automation could have been assembled at a later point in time. Gymnast's ceramic head features stationary brown glass eyes, handpainted ladybugs and butterflies, and two-tone hair arranged in a green bow. Regardless this is still quite unique and worthy to be in any collection.
