Exceedingly scarce trigger fired British 2” Mark I* bomb thrower with tank mounting apparatus. Manufacture indicated as “Unknown” in the NFA registry, but this is clearly British made and marked “C.E.E. Co” and dated 1942. Markings also include “Bomb Thrower 2” with added “*” after Mk I. Very robustly constructed and with innovative gas tapping regulator on left side with “Long”, “Medium”, and “short” indicator marks next to selector lever. This allows operator to select the amount of propellant gas bled off through a side mounted tube when firing, thereby adjusting the range. Enormous forged locking collar with detent latch and under-swivel hinged arrangement allows for loading the projectile into this device from midpoint of the barrel. Heavy four-bolt mounting plate attached to front section is for mounting this to a tank. No provision for sights. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very fine original dull matte finish turning brown with some scattered areas of light corrosion. Mechanics are fine in that the action gives a “snap” when trigger is actuated with action closed. Smooth bore is good with light corrosion. Base within which would equate to bolt face is very good with gray patina. It has been said that the American WW2 G.I. would bring back just about anything they could get a hold of which was intricate, regardless if it had a practical use in peacetime. If this item does not illustrate this point, nothing will. Our thanks to our “greatest generation” who provided those who came later with such interesting souvenirs. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. JWK 2019-10-68
