Absolutely beautiful condition original World War II Bazooka which is registered simply as “US” in the manufacturer block in the NFA registry, but was actually manufactured by Cheney-Bigelow Wire Works. The M9A1 rocket launcher was an improved bazooka fielded in 1944 and utilized a magneto to electrically fire rockets primarily as an anti-vehicle weapon. They were effective against lightly armored vehicles, and punching through emplacement barriers. Issued in two sections which quickly clamped together for use it was quite portable even at 14 ½ pounds. It needed to be as the rockets it fired weighed 3 pounds each, and were issued in containers of three, carried by a designated loader. Seldom were more than three ever carried by a soldier. Additional reloads were often carried by fellow squad members when the mission called for them. This model features a folding optic sight which is adjustable for range. The consignor registered this weapon during the 1968 amnesty. Weapon is supplied in original factory shipping crate. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish near excellent original green paint finish with a few chips to the paint. Mechanics are crisp with a nice snap when trigger is actuated, but beyond this whether current is generated is untested. Bore of tube is near excellent shiny and bright with a couple small dark spots. Grips are very fine with some handling marks. A very rare item to find registered for private ownership at all, let alone amnesty registered and Curio and Relic eligible. This cataloger has never seen a better original condition original representative specimen in over 30 years. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A “DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE” AND IS ALSO CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2019-10-198
