Scarce earlier Steyr manufactured German MP-40 machine gun marked "bnz 41" with early flat magazine housing. Numerous Nazi proof marks throughout and mostly matching with exception of bolt. Front sight hood, barrel, barrel nut, receiver tube, and lower assembly all match. Very neat original tiny “WaA 623” (Steyr) code on left side of magazine housing. Barrel resting bar is white pot metal and rough to the touch. One original 32 round magazine is included. The flat housing MP-40’s were the second transition after the ones which utilized the leftover MP-38 housings which had lightening holes in the sides. During use the flat, “slab-sided” housing did not hold up as well to impact, and very soon the design was changed to the familiar corrugated magazine housings. The slab-sided mag housing guns are scarce and sought-after specimens on the collector market. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish of gun and magazine is fine to extremely fine original finish thinning to a grey and brown patina in places. Bakelite is fine and serviceable with a 3” long crack running roughly parallel to the bore line on the left side, not very discernible because it is in the ridges of the bakelite. Mechanics are fine. Bore is extremely fine shiny and bright. Bolt face is extremely fine. This is a fully automatic only machine gun. What a great specimen for an FFL/SOT dealer to acquire and then keep upon relinquishing their license! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS MACHINE GUN IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL.
