Affectionately referred to as a "Thumper" or "Bloop Tube" because of the distinct sounds of firing, the M79 Grenade Launcher saw widespread use throughout Vietnam as a man-portable force multiplier. This example has the folding ladder sight, protected blade front sight, pivoting trigger guard, anodized aluminum tube and wooden stocks with NOSHOC pad. Bottom of the receiver marked "J C MANUFACTURING, INC / MPLS., MINNESOTA / 40mm M79 / 1743". CONDITION: Very fine as partially refinished. Receiver has been reparkerized and there are some pits that can be seen under pitting. Receiver also has marks from use since refinish, bottom is particularly noticeable. Barrel has some marks where anodization has started to rub, just in front of breech. Stocks are good, solid, with a rectangular area of lighter wood on left side from where a sticker of some kind was removed, probably a property number. There is a noticeable splice in the wood at both sides of the upper tang. Bore is very good, with some pitting and staining but still sharp. Bolt face is very good, with some markings from use. Mechanics are crisp. This example is accompanied by an Army manual dated 1961. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. EW
