H&R produced approximately 54,000 of these guns between 1921 and the passage of the National Firearms Act in 1934. Very popular for both home defense and the hunting of small game, it's no wonder why so many of these were produced. There are also numerous small variations, making these fun and interesting to collect. Made by H&R for Belknap Hardware Company of Louisville, Kentucky, who used Essex Gun Works as a trade name. Barrel marked "410-12m/m CHOKE" on top. Nickel plated is marked "ESSEX/ GUN WORKS" stamped over the large letters "SX" on left side. Checkered wood grip, plain wood forend. Very tight taper to muzzle of barrel. CONDITION: Fine with 85% original nickel plating on receiver. Barrel retains some blue with mostly a pleasing patina and very light pitting. Some minor surface rust here and there. Markings are clear. Wood has dings and handling marks with a piece broken off of the right side of the hand stabilizing spur at top of grip. Bore is fine. Fine mechanical function. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS GUN IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 CLASSIFIED AS "ANY OTHER WEAPON". GR
