Very nice original Russian model 1940 50mm mortar, complete with bipod, base plate and attractive brown bakelite adjustment ring. Data plates and windage adjustment knobs not present on bipod. Detachable sight not present. NFA registry shows manufacturer and model as “Unknown”. Multiple numbers on cup, one of which is registered serial number. The 1940 model Russian mortar was a simplified design over the 1939 model with round hole vents at the detachable base. They provided handy and portable firepower at the tactical level. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish extremely fine blue refinish over some light pitting and what appears to be a shrapnel scar 5” to 5 - 1/2 ” from the muzzle with scattered areas of brown patina. Bipod and base plate exhibit over 90% original dark sand paint with flaking to reveal brown patina. Mechanics are fine with very smoothly rotating base cap. Very attractive clear markings. Very clean bore shows light areas of corrosion and light pitting. An attractive display piece, registered live and ready to take to the range.
