The Pulver Chemical Co. of Rochester NY was the manufacturer of this Pulver Kola-Pepsin vending machine with a patent date of 1899. Fortunately the company changed its name to The Pulver Chocolate and Chicle Co. in 1904, a much more appetizing name for a candy and gum company. These animated clock-work vending machines could come with several different internal characters, with this particular machine having one of the rarest, Uncle Sam. It is amazing that any of these machines survive today given that most were mounted outside store fronts, and this example is a stand out to most that exist today. A rare version of the tin lithograph case advertising Kola-Pepsin and a graphic of a pack of gum on the front. An all original untouched version with signs of use and paint loss present, but with bright color and shine. Uncle Sams original clothes are a bit tattered, but complete, and the machine works. Original paper label and with key. Reference "Silent Salesman Too" by Bill Enes, page 158.
