This Sten is marked on bottom of magazine housing “SECO”. Registered number 94055 also on bottom of magazine housing. Bottom of sheet metal housing forward of trigger guard “S&S”. Receiver marked on left side with broad arrow proof mark. This weapon was captured by 2nd Bn., 276th Inf. 70th Inf. Div. at Forbach, France in winter 1944-45. Included in this lot are copies of the original documentation authorizing the weapons exit from the European Theater of Operations, a copy of signed package certificate by then LTC Theo C. Mataxis dated 9 July 1945, another statement dated 6 January 1948 regarding their shipment, a copy of letter on Brigadier General letterhead dated 21 November 1968, signed by BG Mataxis indicating weapons submitted (including this Sten) for registration during the Amnesty period. Also included is a copy of the original amnesty registration form, copy of Form 3 transfer form James D. Julia Inc to Historic Arms LLC dated 12/13/2014, and an unsigned statement indicating that this very Sten gun was used as a display prop in the film Taps (1981) in the movie home of the General portrayed by actor George C. Scott. PROVENANCE: Personal Collection of B.G. (RET) Theo C. Mataxis, Veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam, & adviser to Afghanistan forces fighting against Soviet occupation during the 1980s. Electronic NFA Registry indicates, “BRITAIN (OR ENGLAND)” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fair to good with about 40% of blue and black enamel finish remaining with balance turning to gray patina. Some wear to bare metal particularly at high points and back of receiver tube. Finish is removed to bare metal at underside of magazine housing where serial number and other markings are. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. Magazine finish consistent with rest of firearm’s finish. This is a select-fire machine gun. Please see another lot in this same auction which contains numerous Sten accessories. Due to the provenance, it is difficult to imagine a more desirable specimen of this model machine gun.
