The Dragunov is the iconic Eastern Bloc DMR, and was fielded during the Cold War as a squad level method of engaging with combatants beyond the effective range of 7.62x39mm. They were produced in many of the Eastern Bloc countries, but this example is a true Russian manufacture example, dated 1983 on underside of receiver with Izhevsk arrow-in-triangle. Iconic configuration with long barrel with long flash hider, long ventilated forearm, and ergonomic stock with cheekpiece. Matching serial numbers on dust cover, bolt carrier, bolt, autosafety, piston assembly ahead of forearm, trigger assembly on hammer, right side of receiver above trigger guard, and underside of receiver; trunnion marked "X7123" behind forearm, barrel numbered "X8915", forearm scales marked "6" and "49" (?, difficult to read), stock numbered 41075 at pistol grip. With correct PSO-1 scope with 1.7m range finding reticle. No import marks observed. CONDITION: Fabulous, and very close to NOS, with the original black enamel paint retained throughout with some distension about proofs from application of stamp still visible. There are some very minor handling marks from age observed at the sharpest edges of metal; most offensive a grouping of marks on underside of barrel ahead of forearm and at piston head, and some scratching ahead of magazine well. Stocks with somewhat more handling marks. Glass is clear. Mechanically fine, bore excellent with strong rifling and some light firing residue. This is the finest example that this cataloguer has observed.
