Designed as an easy to use double barrel 20GA smoothbore pistol for personal defense prior to the passage of the NFA, approximately 4,000 were produced from 1921 to 1934. This early A model example was produced circa July 1923. In total about 2,500 Model A guns were built from 1921 to 1925 on Flues actions, similar to those used on Ithaca sporting guns at the time. The case hardened frame is marked "AUTO & BURGLAR GUN" on each side above the Ithaca address and under decorative pointer dog motifs. The matching numbered blued steel barrels are fitted with a wide matted rib and single brass bead sight, and are marked "SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL" and "MADE IN USA" over the breeches. Chokes measure approximately improved cylinder. Correct 2 - 1/2" chambers. Matching checkered walnut splinter forend. Checkered walnut pistol grip with early style spur. CONDITION: Good. Significant portions of blue are retained on the barrel, thinning to a gray patina with some muzzle wear. Flashes of case color are retained in the protected areas of the frame, the balance a gray patina with some faded colors and patterning. Wood shows some scattered dings and nicks, with wear around the grip base. Bright bores. Fine mechanics. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 CLASSIFIED AS "ANY OTHER WEAPON".
