Circa 2009. Chopper lump barrels with Westley Richards patent flip-over front sight with scrollwork on sight hood and at base, with fore ramp stippled. Wide concave rib with gold inlaid "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co ENGLAND.". Quarter rib with nicely cut floral scroll that extends down ramp and into rib, with a three leaf express rear sight: standing leaf regulated for 50 yards while folding leaves are regulated for 100 and 150 yards; all leaves with gold express lines and anti-glare matting. Engraved over the chambers "CAL. ·470 NITRO-EXPRESS" and "REG. FOR 500 GRN. BULLET". Underside of barrels with matching "20170" serial numbers, import marked behind forearm lump by WRA, Bozeman, Montana, and with British nitro proofs on barrel flats for a .470 Nitro Express at 3375 BAR. Sling eye on island sweated to bottom of rib. Splinter forearm with horn tip and point pattern checkering with mullered borders about a Deely latch release. Release and exterior iron engraved in low relief acanthus scroll on a stippled ground, interior iron with matching serial number. Droplock action with low relief scroll en suite, signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS" in gold on both sides of action. Game scene engraving depicts a pair of cape buffalo on the left side, a pair of rhinos on the right, and a single elephant on the bottom, all supported by scrollwork en suite. Engraving is signed "P. Spode '09" abutting trigger guard for Peter Spode, who has been working for Westley Richards for more than 30 years and is well known for his relief work and carvings. Double triggers protected by a long tang trigger guard with engraving en suite, with serial number inlaid in gold, that runs all the way to a steel pistol grip cap with trap. Westley Richards hinged lever with "WESTLEY RICHARDS" ahead of lever in gold, non-automatic bolted safety with "SAFE" in gold ahead of slide, and "BOLTED" sidelever. Exhibition quality streaked and densely grained Circassian walnut stock with checkered side panels, tear drops, beaded cheekpiece, sling eye on stud at toe line, and a gold vanity plate at toe line engraved "TWA". Leather wrapped recoil pad with English style covered screws. Housed in a brass tabbed leather wrapped case with accessories comprising spanner wrench, three turnscrews, oil bottle, wallet with pair strikers and replacement front sight, two piece cleaning rod, wallet with pull throughout, pair brushes, mop, and jag, Westley Richards branded selvyt cloth, and pouch with extra locks, with matching serial numbers and "EXTRA LOCK" engraved. Canvas and leather slip for case embossed "T.W.A / Westley Richards / .470 No. 2010". CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels with nearly all of their blueing with some handling marks and some spotting on left barrel towards muzzle. Stocks excellent with some very minor scattered impressions and one miniscule chip at left sidepanel. Mechanically fine, bores excellent with strong rifling and a little carbon buildup from use. Case excellent with some scattered scuffs and handling marks. A fabulous double rifle in an all-time great caliber with phenomenal engraving.
