During World War II, Inland continued experimenting with modifying the M1 carbine design, these guns were numbered in several "X" prefix blocks, this example numbered "XC39". At the end of the war, many guns in these experimental serial number blocks were given as presentations to General Motors leadership and military officials. The Inland barrel is dated "9-44" and is fitted with "N" marked milled front sight and "I.R.CO." adjustable rear sight. Small parts include an unmarked trigger housing round bolt, push button safety, and unmarked magazine catch. Low wood walnut stock marked "HI" in the slingwell. "IO" marked 4-rivet top wood retained by a "Q" marked bayonet lug barrel band. Includes olive woven sling and oiler. CONDITION: Very good. Metal retains the vast majority of its arsenal parkerized finish. Stock has an older coat of gloss finish with some small areas of finish loss and other scattered light marks. Fine, crisp and bright bore. Fine mechanics. A nice, very scarce M1 carbine.
