(ca 1912) 26" chopper lump barrels are fitted with file cut quarter rib holding one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight and matching front ramp with silver bead and flip-up porcelain night bead. Tops of barrels are engraved "E. M. Reilly & Co" "295 Oxford St London." Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 75 grains of cordite and 480 grain bullet. Bottoms of barrels are stamped for Krupp steel and with serial numbers. Actual manufacturers number "1315" is on bottom rib along with soldered on sling eye. Arched back boxlock Webley screw grip top lever action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pivoting third fastener (screw grip), and double triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage very nicely cut large open shaded scroll. "E. M. REILLY & CO" is in arched band on each side over "London". Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard have matching scroll. Serial number is on trigger guard tang which extends to engraved steel buttplate. Lightly marbled and figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 - 7/8" over newer Silver type pad. Stock features drop points, point pattern checkering at grip, and a sling eye matching that on barrels, along with a silver oval engraved "O. H. A" on toe line. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Weight: 11 lbs 1 oz. CONDITION: Very good, as refinished. Barrels retain nearly all of a satin rust re-blue, lettering considerably softened. Action cleaned to coin finish. Blued parts retain nearly all of their re-blue. Stocks have old oil refinish, checkering cleaned up. A 2" x 3/4" piece of wood as been inlet in toe of stock to repair a large chip. Bores are excellent, with sharp shiny rifling throughout. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Rifle is accompanied by three boxes of old Kynoch soft points, a box of new Kynoch containing four soft nosed cartridges, and three plastic boxes of various factory and reloaded cartridges. The .465 has earned an enviable reputation as a dangerous game caliber. This nicely balanced mechanically excellent dangerous game rifle would be ideal for a professional hunter, or perhaps your next African safari. MGM31.
