Fantastic Soviet Russian PPSh-41 machine gun manufactured in 1944 by the Vyatskie Polyany factory as indicated by the star within the shield marking forward of the ejector port. This is one of the major manufacturers of this machine gun during World War II. Visible serial numbers appear matching on upper receiver, lower assembly tang, trigger guard, and upon close examination, one can almost discern them on the left side of the stock. Bolt also seems to match but a couple numbers are hard to make out. Observe the pictures and judge for yourself. Barrel does not display a serial number but does have a very lightly electro penciled number on right side, “B3 588”. One 71 round drum magazine and original sling is included. Although over five million of these guns were manufactured in Soviet Russia, they are a rather scarce item as a fully transferable Curio and Relic eligible machine gun in the National Firearms Act registry. Original amnesty registration form is included with this lot. Incoming paper ATF Form 4 from consignor indicates “Russian” in manufacturers block. Electronic registry indicates, ”ASKLAND, RUSSELL LEE DBA SXT” in this field, which likely is the entity which reactivated this gun. This should in no way detract from the collector value of this gun as the legal status remains Curio and Relic and the condition is absolutely stellar. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original finish over original manufacturer’s machine marks, tooling marks and pitting acquired at factory prior to bluing. One must remember the conditions under which these weapons were made, and that they were made as quickly as possible for immediate fielding and use. Functionality was the primary concern followed with desire that the guns be protected from corrosion in the field. Tool marks, welding imperfections, and rust acquired as the factory from conditions there did not matter in the least. The wear pattern and thinning of the finish to grey patina at certain points indicate the pinprick pitting and strike marks were acquired vintage of when the firearm was made and not contemporary. Wood stock has been lightly sanded and refinished. Drum number 8808 with faint electro pencil BH2384 has about 90% coverage remaining over light pitting. Mechanics of gun and drum are fine albeit untested by firing. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. This is a select fire machine gun. A great gun for the discerning machine gun collector as it was used by enemy forces across several major conflicts. Ammunition remains plentiful and available in this country. A great specimen in top condition for the advanced and discerning World War II collector! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
